Overlaying existing ceiling batts

Similar to another person the batts in our ceiling look more than 20 years old and are flat and thin.
Is it okay overlay with green stuff – will that react with old batts or do we need to put batts on top.
thanks a regards Rob

Lots of older batts are now in this condition and will be underperforming.
It is fine to overlay with a polyester blanket [autex / novatherm] and no reaction will occur. Your bonus is the batts will provide some additional R-Value to your new insulation. I have done this same process to 1000′s of square metres in ceilings
