Heat pumps in hallways?

You can’t beat learning from other people’s experience.

Here at the Home Energy Advice Centre we would like to hear from people who have installed heat pumps in their hallways. Some of the questions we have about heat pumps in hallways are;

  1. Are you happy with the results? Do they achieve an even and effective flow of heat in the rooms you want to heat?
  2. Is it an affordable way to heat the rest of the house?
  3. What do you think is the best way to install a heat pump in a hallway to achieve optimum results?  Do they work best in certain situations – e.g. size and shape of hallways, plus lay out of adjoining rooms?
  4. Are you unhappy with installing a heat pump in your hallway? Why has this not been successful? Is there anything you would caution against?
  5. How important is it to keep all the doors open? What happens if your family includes teenagers who often like to barricade themselves in their rooms with the door firmly shut for hours at a time? Do you have to use supplementary heating in the bedrooms that are closed off from the heat pump?  Does this create extra heating costs for you?
  6. Would you have been better off installing a ducted heat pump in the roof space instead and ducting the heat into seperate rooms?

We don’t need you to answer all of these questions, just pick the ones most relevant to you and go for it!

Keep warm and well this winter
